Thalapathy Vijay's wife, Sangeetha, is not an Indian citizen. A Sri Lankan Tamil by heritage, she was born and raised in London. She has spent many years of her life in the UK, even after her marriage.
It is also rumoured that Jason Sanjay, Vijay's son, is a UK citizen. Therefore, both he and his mother cannot vote in Indian elections, including for Vijay's party in the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
At least, that's what the online buzz suggests. Are these social media discussions final, though? So far, official sources haven't broken their silence. For many years, Akshay Kumar's citizenship was a social media-driven controversy.
"These claims about citizenship remain largely based on media reports, family background details, and online speculation rather than official documents. No confirmed public records explicitly state their current citizenship status, and the family maintains a very low public profile," a supporter of Vijay recently said.
Vijay's son, Jason, is currently directing his debut movie, Sigma, headlined by Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. Sangeetha is a homemaker and has been married to Vijay since 1999.
