'Jathi Ratnalu' will release in theatres on March 11. In this interview, he talks about the film, how the project happened, working with Naveen Polishetty and others and more.
After I completed Degree, I did a short film by the name of 'Missed Call'. I realized that cinema gives me a lot of pleasure. I worked as an Assistant Director for 'Uyyala Jampala'.
The crux of 'Jathi Ratnalu' is about what happens when three dumb men get trapped in a serious crime. They don't know anything about laws and the ways of the world. It's a situational comedy that doesn't have forced scenes.
This is my second film, the first one being 'Pittagoda'. Producer Nag Ashwin liked a short film I had made ten years ago and gave me this offer. He gave me this film even though my first movie flopped.
It was the producer's suggestion that the lead role should be played by Naveen Polishetty. He is an innocent guy, much like his friends, played by Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna. Besides, there is Faria Abdullah. All characters in the story have their place.
The entire shoot happened in a joyful climate. There was no pressure even during the pandemic. Amazon Prime came to us with a huge offer but we wanted to release the film only in theatres.
The story was developed by me, Nag Ashwin and one Samar. I am always open to ideas. A lot of brainstorming of ideas happened. It was the producer's suggestion to go for Radhan for music. His sounding is new.
Working with Nag Ashwin made me discover that he is so very fond of comedies. Laughter is the highest point of emotion. I was convinced during the shoot itself that the output was shaping up very well.
After Brahmanandam garu came on board, his character was developed and extra scenes added. He will be there in the film for 20 minutes.
Barring horror and violence, I can try any genre. After the release of the trailer, a number of producers have called me up and appreciated me. 'Jathi Ratnalu' is a satirical comedy that tells the truth without offending anyone. The film doesn't touch upon any particular issue.
I have grown up in Sangareddy. 'Jathi Ratnalu' kind of highlights the kind of naive people who inhabit the town.
I have 3-4 stories ready. I want to make a comedy with martial arts as the backdrop. It could be produced by Ashwini Dutt garu's banner if everything goes well. The story suits a young actor.
