Hyderabad, April 14, 2012: Ramakanth is presenting his solo exhibition of paintings titled 'The Choices we Made and Other Works,' at Muse Art Gallery, Hotel Marriott, Hyderabad from April 14 to May 11, 2012. Star actor Allu Arjun inaugurated the event.
About the artist: In the year 2007. on invitation, Ramakanth exhibited his works titled 'Of Human Bondage & Other Works' in Japan, at City Hall, Hikone City. He presented his second solo exhibition of paintings titled 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Other Works,' at Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad from November 11 to 13, 2011.
In this, his 3'd solo exhibition, Ramakanth showcases a series of 32 paintings at Muse Art Gallery. The paintings follow contemporary norms with a greater emphasis on idea and lesser dependence on craft. The exhibition is being curated by Kaali Sudheer.
The artist's muse: Lost in societal complexity, swept away by populistic measures, perpetually running after never attainable dangling carrots ... we sometimes portray a very amusing picture of ourselves. Are we the same individuals who carry certain biological genes that are supposedly unchangeable or are we the obvious results of the choices we made as we evolved?
Ramakanth said, "Paintings, I believe, are like poems or interesting stories. The visual appeal being the connect with the viewer - as they stimulate and offer meaningful direction to thinking minds. My new series of works portrays typical human conflicts. For example a painting titled, 'The price of being original' can be identified with by quite a few. Because their journeys on less travelled roads endow them with the insight to understand the emotion.
'How are we supposed to understand the language of art?' is one of the frequent questions I face. The answer 's highly predictable. Like any evolved form of art, paintings have their own grammar and communication elements. So what one needs to do is to travel along. The essence of every painting, however abstract, will reveal itself sooner or later.'
He quoted eminent filmmaker and painter Mr. Muzaffar Ali here, who in his recent article 'A sufi in a maze' elegantly summed up this crisis. "We stand at the cross roads of a civilization, watching our own destruction, helplessly on account of choices we have made out of our own free will. You must remain an artiste and ensure that your poetic, painterly and cinematic touch is not compromised. That will enliven the spirit and rejuvenate the body and soul, and disseminate a social intelligence that makes one believe that 'man is the measure of all things.'
Sale proceeds: The proceeds from the sale of the paintings will go to AnandaPriya Foundation.
