Ravi Teja has teamed up with VI Anand of 'Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada' fame for the movie 'Disco Raja'. Will this movie mark the comeback of the 'Mass Maharaj'?
Story
Disco Raj (Ravi Teja), a gangster based in Madras, gets killed by rivals and after finding his frozen dead body in Ladakh after 35 years, a research team miraculously brings him back to life. His friends and foes get aged but Disco Raj is as young as he was 35 years ago to the surprise of everyone. He sets out to find his enemy Sethu (Bobby Simha), who wreaked havoc in his life. But he finds out some shocking facts in the course of his journey.
Performances
Ravi Teja is good in his role. But we have seen many such performances from him and so looks routine. Bobby Simha is impressive as a villain both in the young and old look. Sunil's role will definitely impress his fans. Vennela Kishore and Satya generate good laughs. Payal Rajput is good. Nabha Natesh is wasted.
Technical aspects
SS Thaman, who is in the form of his life, gives a superb background score. The 'Freak Out' song has been used well. The others songs are also good. Karthik Ghattamaneni's cinematography is another asset for the movie. Some scenes were shot brilliantly.
Plus Points
Film takes off well
Concept with a good potential
Technical brilliance
Few retro & comedy scenes
Minus Points
Screenplay
Seems lengthy
Analysis
'Disco Raja' ,which starts off as a science fiction movie, ends up as a gangster drama. The film takes off well and the concept seems to have a good potential. But the screenplay should have been engaging. Some retro scenes were good. Thaman's background score and Karthik Ghattamaneni's cinematography are assets for the movie. The flashback portions seem lengthy. The twist at the end may not appeal to many.
All in all, 'Disco Raja' is an okay science fiction based gangster drama
