Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan has blasted the latest box-office blockbuster, 'Animal', on the floor of Parliament. She said that her daughter broke down in tears after watching the action thriller. "My daughter couldn't watch the film fully. Some of the scenes in 'Animal' are disrespectful towards women," the MP said.
In an interview with a Hindi-language TV channel, Ranjan further said that films like 'Kabir Singh' (the Hindi remake of 'Arjun Reddy') and Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa' were problematic as well.
The parliamentarian also added that the song 'Arjan Vailly', the Punjabi war anthem, has been used inappropriately in 'Animal', thereby "hurting" Sikh religious sentiments.
Fans of 'Animal' and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga are of the view that the parliamentarian is a hypocrite. "All types of movies are there on Netflix and people watch them. So many toxic shows and check who watches them more? Men or women?" a Twitter user asked.
'Animal' is receiving all the attention because it is a mainstream blockbuster movie.
