'Animal' producer exposes 'fake' collections trend in Bollywood

'Animal' producer Pranay Reddy Vanga has said that his movie has so far collected Rs 870 Cr (worldwide gross). About 3.20 crore people have watched the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial in theatres so far, he revealed in his latest interview.

Pranay touched upon the practice of corporate bookings culture prevalent in Bollywood. He indicated that Bollywood has this practice of shoring up collections by opting for bulk bookings. That's what makes their collections inorganic. While he didn't name any movie, it is clear he was referring to some specific, big-ticket titles released in the last 15 months or so.

The producer added that 'Animal' collected Rs 30-50 Cr less in the first week owing to the lack of adequate theatrical release. "We had to share screens with 'Sam Bahadur' (Hindi). The 200-minute length, too, did contribute to less-than-optimal collections. There was no long weekend as well. Distributors told us that 'Animal' would have been bigger had these factors not been there," Pranay said.
