'HanuMan' producer K Niranjan Reddy began this year on a great note. The Teja Sajja movie, directed by Prasanth Varma, became a sensational hit. However, the new producer has received two back-to-back commercial jolts in just two months this year.
'Darling', produced by Niranjan and his wife Chaitanya Reddy, was released in July. The relationship comedy was a colossal dud. Since they are the producers, they might have recovered a good deal of money from OTT and satellite deals.
'Double Ismart' has been distributed by Niranjan Reddy, who had bought its worldwide theatrical release rights. The value of the deal is not known. As per unofficial estimates, producers Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur sold the rights to Niranjan Reddy for more than Rs 35 Cr. The film has turned out to be a major disaster. It is doing better than 'Mr. Bachchan', but that is just a consolation prize. 'Double Ismart' is facing stiff competition from 'AAY', 'Thangalaan' and 'Committee Kurrollu', none of which were expected to stand a chance against the sequel.
All in all, 'Darling' and 'Double Ismart' have proven to be a double whammy for the 'HanuMan' producer.
