Director Prasanth Varma is the story-writer of this week's most outrageous release, 'Devaki Nandana Vasudeva'. Those who were unlucky enough to watch the loud action entertainer have been unable to come out of the pounding headache caused by its outdated story-telling. Reviewers have laughed at the movie's overwrought situations, done-to-death elements, and draggy sequences.
It is astonishing that Prasanth Varma, who delivered a blockbuster just this January, has penned such a listless story. He recently stated that, given a chance, he would rather give up direction and keep writing stories. He has more than two dozen stories ready (33 to be precise) and it is worrying that we might end up watching 32 of them.
'HanuMan' worked mainly because of three factors: the divine element, the songs, and the timing of the release (Sankranthi). Its casting was mediocre even by Telugu film standards. 'Guntur Kaaram' and 'Saindhav' being bad also helped it. One hopes 'Jai Hanuman' and Nandamuri Mokshagna's debut film will have inventive storylines.
