Krithi Shetty has romanced Naga Chaitanya in 'Bangarraju', which will be released in theatres on January 14. In this interview, she talks about the experience of teaming up with Naga Chaitanya and Akkineni Nagarjuna, being a Psychology student, learning Telugu, her upcoming projects, and more.
When I listened to the story, I was bewildered by the naivete of my character. I laughed hard. She is an entertaining, fun woman who wants to be a village sarpanch. This is a new sort of character. I got to use Telugu words that I didn't know of before. It was a learning experience.
I was apprehensive and wondered if I would be intimidated by the presence of a senior actor like Nagarjuna sir. But I felt very comfortable. I was made to feel like a teammate.
Before coming into movies, I did commercials. Thanks to 'Uppena' and the love showered upon me by the audience, I landed an important film like 'Bangarraju'. It was like a breeze. I didn't get jittery. Director Kalyan garu might have gone through pressure but he didn't show it.
Comedy is what I liked the most in 'Soggade Chinni Nayana'. Back then, I didn't know Telugu much. Still, I could understand the situations and the humour. For playing the character in 'Bangarraju', I had to watch a number of comedy movies. It helped me get into the groove.
Nag sir doesn't take even a second to transform into his character as soon as he is in front of the camera. He has shown flamboyance and the 'pogaru' of the character. Ramya Krishna garu is a mesmerizing actress. I like her so much. She looks beautiful and cute. I have got no combination scenes with her.
Thanks to doing Telugu films and also watching Telugu movies, I have become relatively fluent. I like to dance and I got the opportunity to dance with joy in 'Bangarraju'. My character has a lot of importance and more relevance to the story than my character had in 'Shyam Singha Roy'.
As a Psychology student, I observe people. I studied the subject so that I can evolve as an actor. It's helping me a great deal. Right from childhood, I have been a girl of few words. I am silent. I would definitely want to improve how I am as a person.
I have played six characters so far, each so different from the others. It has been challenging and unusual. I am getting to learn a lot. I listen to a number of stories regularly. I am picky. A lot of them don't suit me. Also, some of them are repetitious. I am up for new challenges, for playing characters that challenge me.
When I did 'Shyam Singha Roy', I didn't think how the bold scenes featuring me might be received. 'Uppena' made me synonymous with the character, Bebamma. The audience enjoyed my performance in 'SSR' as well. It was not easy to shoot for the scenes amid many people on set. But I was not scared. I forgot about the crowds.
I don't use glycerine for crying. I get into the skin of the character and do it naturally. Sometimes, the character stays with me even after going back home. I feel bad for the people who face such situations in life.
I am a Tulu girl and we don't have a Sankranthi. But I am looking forward to a special Sankranthi this year! I am happy about where I am and the people I am getting to work with. It's stressful at times, physically but not mentally.
I don't like my voice that much. That's why I am yet to start dubbing. When I am comfortable, I will dub.
Indraganti's 'Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali', Nithiin's 'Macharla Niyojakavargam', and Ram's 19th film are my upcoming movies in Telugu. I want to play a Princess; I know it will be challenging to play such a character.
