Krithi Shetty talks about Shyam Singha Roy

Krithi Shetty has played Natural Star Nani's love interest in 'Shyam Singha Roy', which was released in theatres on Friday (Dec 24). In this interview, she talks about preparing for the urbane character, working with Nani and director Rahul Sankrityan, and more. The 'Uppena' actress also talks about doing the smoking scene, which is her introduction scene in the movie.

In 'Uppena', I had a village belle's role. In 'Shyam Singha Roy', it's a total contrast. I watch Telugu movies to understand the Telugu culture. For 'Uppena', I watched rural-based Telugu movies as part of my homework. For 'SSR', I watched English-language movies.

Since my character in 'SSR' is the daughter of a single parent, she behaves in a boyish way. Doing the smoking scene was challenging. I requested the director to reconsider the scene. Rahul told me I just have to play the character. They bought me a herbal cigarette and I somehow pulled it off after practising it for three days (smiles). An Assistant Director taught me how to hold the cigarette, etc.

Bold scenes are seen in a negative light by many. But it's all about being professional. Even in an action scene, you are merely giving a performance. Bold scenes are no different. The bedroom scene in 'SSR' is there for the sake of the story in the sense it connects to the character Rosy (played by Sai Pallavi).

My father has watched the movie and appreciated my performance. He told me I am very different from how I am in real life.

At first, I was intimidated because Nani and others are highly experienced. They supported me totally. They motivated me by giving positive feedback on set.

'Uppena' was performance-oriented. 'SSR' gave me the chance to show my versatility. After my first movie, a number of similar roles came my way. I rejected them because that would have been routine. I want to do a variety of roles.

More than my character, it is the story that is important. So, I didn't mind that my character takes a backseat in the second half of 'SSR'. I enjoyed watching Sai Pallavi's performance. She has nailed it! As for Nani, I liked him in 'MCA' and 'Ninnu Kori' before.

The dubbing artist has done a nice job. Her voice is so close to mine. I hopefully will continue my journey with her.

I wish to do an action movie. If the need be, I am ready to do stunts. I want to explore it. It will be quite challenging. No OTT offer has come my way so far. I am open to the space. I listen to scripts in company with my mother.

My work on 'Bangarraju' was completed yesterday. 'Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali' might release in the first quarter of next year. RAPO19 (Ram Pothineni's 19th movie) and 'Macharla Niyojakavargam' are being shot.
