After the recent 'Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi', 'Anni Manchi Shakunamule' is Malvika Nair's second theatrical release of the year. Santosh Shoban headlines the film. "The shoot started with a grand wedding song. I was thrilled to watch so many artists, among them seniors, perform on set. They are all highly motivated and completely egoless. Once I started working with Santosh, it was like working with a friend," Malvika says in this interview. Ahead of the film's release on May 18, the 'Kalyana Vaibhogame' and 'Yevade Subrahmanyam' actress talks about her Summer title at length.

I have mostly played soft and reserved girl roles in my career. In 'AMS', I am spunky and a bit angry. She is organized, she wants to have her way and expects to control others.

Coonoor is where most of the movie was shot. The hill station schedule went on for more than 30 days, during which I had to stay away from my family. I live in my own sort of world.

It was nice having lunch with Gautami garu. It was fun watching comedy king Rajendra Prasad garu perform. This is my second film with Naresh garu. We talk about philosophy and other issues when we are not shooting.

Slice-of-life cinema is my most favourite type. For me, novelty is very important. As an actor, I want to do something different every time. I would be bored playing a bland part. How did I bring novelty to the character in 'AMS' is something for the viewer to watch the film and know for themselves. The director's inputs were crucial. I have done a little bit of humour also in a way that the Telugu audience would like. I was motivated to work with the director for the second time. And then, the banner too played a role. From my look, and my costumes to how I present myself to the media, they take care of everything. It's like receiving parental support.

I realized the importance of 'Yevade Subrahmanyam' long after that project happened to me. It was a pathbreaker. Nag Ashwin is a pioneer. I later got to know producers Priyanka Dutt garu and Swapna Dutt garu. They have been like my mentors.

I don't consider myself an outsider. I may have a certain sensibility that is different from a lot of people, but there is space for different thinking. My artistic colours are different. There was a time when I was a beginner. Now, I feel like I am a co-creator. I am invested in how the film is shaping up.

'Thank You' did well on OTT. Many people are able to identify me by that movie.

I would like to do an action movie. I am doing an interesting role in 'Devil', starring Nandamuri Kalyanram as the hero.
