'Animal' lacks social responsibility: Indian cricketer

Jaydev Unadkat, who represented India in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2010, today deleted a strongly-worded social media rant against 'Animal'. Many Netizens had taken screenshots of his tweet by then.

In his tweet, Jaydev described the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer as an "absolute disaster" of a film that "glorifies misogyny". He opined that, in today’s world, misogyny can't be packaged as “traditional masculinity” and “alpha male”. He called the film's ideology a disgrace.

"We are not living in jungles and palaces. We are not fighting wars. We are not hunting anymore. It doesn’t matter how good the acting was, one shouldn’t glorify and show such acts in a movie that is watched by millions," the cricketer wrote, adding that the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial lacks a sense of social responsibility.

The film has received a shellacking from Bollywood critics on similar grounds. However, the audience have been showering the film with money.
