Rashmika Mandanna-starrer 'Mission Majnu' opens to mixed reviews

"A generic spy thriller that overtly dramatizes true events from our prickly relationship with Pakistan." This is how a review of 'Mission Majnu' (Hindi), which is currently streaming on Netflix, described the latest Bollywood spy film. The film features Rashmika Mandanna in the role of a blind woman. Sidharth Malhotra is its hero.

The espionage drama narrates the story of a "fictional RAW operation aimed at scuttling Pakistan's secret nuclear programme in the 1970s." The director seems to have taken many creative liberties. "Woven into the patchy thriller is the love story of an Indian secret agent and a blind Pakistani girl. Neither strand of the narrative is able to keep flaccidity at bay," opined NDTV in its review.

There is some political commentary as well. Pawan Khera of the Congress party lamented that the film falls woefully short on exposing the role of then Prime Minister Morarji Desai in revealing to Pakistan's Zia Ul Haq the details of India’s RAW network in Pakistan. "This resulted in the killing of several RAW agents by Pakistan. Desai’s hatred for RAW was more than his love for India," the Congressman added.

On her part, the 'Pushpa 2' actress is busy promoting the movie. "A character who exhibits unconditional love and innocence. She always chooses to support her loved one and confronts him only when she sees no other way. She was a beautiful lady to play and I hope she finds a place in all your hearts.. bringing to you Nasreen from the movie," the 'Sita Ramam' actress tweeted.
