In January this year, the Telangana High Court ordered that there will be no increase in movie ticket prices for any film releasing before April 19 in the state of Telangana. The court clarified that any ticket price hike must be officially approved and notified at least 90 days prior to a film’s release. The order came after months of policy flip-flops and the politicization of the issue.
As per the order, ticket rate hikes for Ustaad Bhagat Singh were essentially ruled out. However, Mythri Movie Makers have now got the Supreme Court to issue a stay order. The top court, in a piece of good news for Pawan Kalyan's movie, has stayed the interim orders issued by the High Court.
The mechanism that existed before the HC order will be back in force. Senior Advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Niranjan Reddy argued for producers Y Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni.
With this order, the crucial Hyderabad market remains up for grabs for Ustaad Bhagat Singh, which is scheduled to be released in theatres on March 19.
